Every Rotarian Plant A Tree Project
Posted by Bill Pacheco on Feb 17, 2018
When Ian Risely assumed his RI President role in July, he offered the theme Rotary:Making a Difference, and a goal to focus on the environment. He issued a challenge to all Rotary clubs worldwide - to plant a tree for each Rotarian in their club. “It is my hope that the result of that effort will be far greater than the environmental benefit that those 1.2 million new trees will bring,” Riseley said. “I believe the greater result will be a Rotary that recognizes our responsibility not only to the people on our planet, but to the planet itself.” This morning, February 17, 2018 our Folsom Lake Rotary Club came together to meet this challenge. Our club planted 27 trees at Cummings Family Park in Folsom and an additional 15 trees will be added to one of the dog parks at this location over the next few weeks. Folsom Lake Rotary worked closely with The Sacramento Tree Foundation to acquire the trees, and the Folsom Park and Recreation Department in Folsom to find great locations to place the trees. Special thanks to The Sacramento Tree Foundation, Folsom Parks and Recreation Department and all of the Folsom Lake Rotarians and families who volunteered. |

John is also an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice, Communications, Leadership and Professional Studies with the California State University. And you can hear John on the radio every afternoon at 3PM on New Talk Radio AM 1530. John spoke to our group today about the upcoming election. The focus was on our community and many of the initiatives on the ballot. Best recommendation - read thoroughly on the ballot measures to understand the exact impact before voting. A great outing today! We got to tour Folsom Prison which is the second oldest prison in California. An eye opening experience for many of us for sure. We were able to go into the oldest building in the prison, tour the license plate factory which makes all the license plates issued in the State of California (40,000 to 50,000 per day!), see where Johnny Cash famously performed and check out the inmate cells and yard. A few of us even volunteered to be closed in a cell. A fascinating look into the history and lives of the prison. Thanks to Kristi More, our club President, for setting up the tour!
