Rotary
Club of Folsom Lake

Volume 1 | Issue 3

Welcome to another issue of our weekly bulletin! Find out who our upcoming speakers are, what we covered during the last weekly meeting, and learn more about our Member of the Week.

NOTE: ON JUNE 5TH, OUR MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE PATIO OF THE EMPIRE RANCH GOLF CLUB DUE TO RENOVATIONS IN THE BUILDING.
Mark your calendars
On June 5, Dave Sharkey will speak to us about a new program for seniors that he is trying to launch in Folsom. The program is called Folsom Cycling Without Age. Cycling Without Age is a group of people who, with a battery operated rickshaw, take elderly residents from senior homes on bike rides to bring some joy to their lives.  Dave's goal is for all 10 senior homes in Folsom to have their own program. He is attempting to raise money and spread the word about this program. Money has been raised for one so far and it will be going to the Empire Ranch Alzheimer's Special Care Center soon.
Announcements
The show must go on so we are kicking out our past president, President Sam. Let's show him some love and appreciation for all he's done for us. Come celebrate his departure on May 29 at Chicago Fire on Sutter Street at 5:00 pm.
Last Week's Meeting
Gordon Jackson, Director of PROTECT, and Brian Gladden, Human Trafficking Chair for District 5180, gave us an update on the great work PROTECT and Rotary are doing to spread awareness in schools of human trafficking and the correct protocols to follow if one suspects a child is being trafficked. Sacramento is the 3rd largest hub for human trafficking in the United States and we have much work to do to educate the public on the signs to look for and what to do if you suspect it is happening to someone.
Member of the Week
Dennis Metzler contacted 135 before he could find the 25 that started Folsom Lake Rotary in May of 2010. Today, he continues to serve our club as Sergeant at Arms and is one of our most involved, and beloved, Rotarians. Dennis helped pack thousands of meals at the meal packaging event with District 5180 and Rise Against Hunger on May 17. He is an inspiration to all of us. Thank you for all you do for our club, the community, and the world, Dennis.
